According to statistics, the population of Detroit has decreased over the past five years, almost in half. If in the middle of the last century there lived nearly two million people, in the past year – a little over 700,000.
The sharp decline in population was observed especially in the last ten years, when the industry proceeded to mass layoffs. The result of these events is more than deplorable. Nearly one-fifth of the housing stock of Detroit became unclaimed. Photographer Kevin Bauman, a patriot of his city, started working on the project which eventually became known as 100 Abandoned Houses. Kevin himself calls the project a specific real estate catalog of his hometown.
