New York-based artist Matthew Cusick creates complex collages depicting portraits of people, animals, sea landscapes and cityscapes that are made from old maps.
The author carefully cuts pieces of old maps from encyclopedias, reference books and textbooks, road maps and atlases. Of course, for better coloring of the future collage, the most used maps are physical maps. For Matthew, New York is the home town. He grew up here, and got his bachelor’s degree at Cooper Union. He participates in international exhibitions since 1996. His works are in many private collections and galleries of contemporary art.
