Twelve kilometers from the Lithuanian city of Siauliai is located an unusual hill dotted with crosses of different shapes and different materials. History doesn’t tell us about the cause or the time of the appearance of the Hill of Crosses.
Public attention to this place was drawn after the visit of the Pope, who installed here a cross.
Since then, the Hill of Crosses became a real place of pilgrimage.
And, if there originally were only Catholic crosses (traditional Lithuanian crosses); now the mixture of many Christian denominations seems to be a normal thing.
According to preliminary estimations, on the hill are at least fifty thousand crosses.
Their size ranges from small necklaces to enormous crosses.
The appearance date of the Hill of Crosses is unknown.
The scientists’ versions vary from 14th to 19th century.
It is believed that everyone who will set a cross there, will find happiness.
