Last weekend in London was held one of the biggest carnivals in Europe, which took place for the first time almost half a century ago, and was organized in collaboration with immigrants from the Caribbean.
By the way, next year the carnival will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary. The festival lasts for two days. It starts on Sunday with a Child’s Day and continues on Monday with grown-up festivities. As you may already know, the majority of immigrants from the Caribbean have their roots in Africa. Therefore, the traditional costumes of the festival have much in common with the African culture. Nowadays, the main music genres of the festival are reggae and funk, but initially it was calypso, the music of slaves.
