The city of Fairbanks is known not only as an educational center of the state of Alaska, but also as a venue for World Ice Art Championship.
Actually, the championship is held here since 1988. During this time, a simple gathering of a few sculptors grew into a huge event that is over a month long and is attended by tens of artists from all around the world. The single block sculptures are the most popular ones. The sculptors get a block of ice, and they in 60 hours transform it into a beautiful piece of art. Here is a summary of the last championship.
