Every year, in February, on the island of Tenerife, which is one of the Canary Islands, takes place the second largest carnival in the world.
The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife lasts for almost a week. It starts on Friday and reaches its culmination point on midnight, when the streets of the city are filled with thousands of locals and visitors. This continues all weekend until the Ash Wednesday. On Wednesday is celebrated entierro de la sardine, which translates from Spanish as Burial of the Sardine.
