A unique crater continuously burning for more than forty years is located in Karakum desert, Turkmenistan. This place is known to many but not everyone is able to go there. So let’s take a virtual trip there.

Back in 1971, an usual exploration well collapsed with all the equipment in it because the drillers hit an underground natural gas cavern. The idea to burn the gas in there turned out not to be a very bright one. The gas is burning for 42 years already and may continue for a long time.
