Tower of Wind in Tokyo

July 21, 2013 | in Architecture

This structure is located in Tokyo Bay, not far from Haneda Airport. Its name is Kaze no to, which can be translated as Tower of Wind. The unusual shape of this building, from a long distance, may look like a sailing ship.

On a depth of 40 meters below the bottom of the bay, passes the tunnel Tokyo Bay Aqualine, which has a length of 9.6 kilometers. This tunnel leads from Yokohama to Chibu. The Wind Tower is a ventilation shaft for the tunnel. One of the oval structures draws in fresh air, and the other one releases it. Also, here are the emergency exits. The construction of the tunnel took 31 years and cost $11.2 billion. However, the profitability of the project is evident. It allows to save about 100 kilometers that are needed when moving along the shore.
