In Arabic this place is called the Mosquito Oasis, and the name is for both, caldera—the volcanic field—and the volcano itself. The volcano is located in the Sothern Libya.
By the way, the geographical center of the biggest desert in the world, Sahara, is located not far away from this volcano. There’s not just vegetation inside the crater, there are also three lakes with salt water. Around the base of the volcano, the earth’s surface is covered with basaltic ash. Moreover, the ash extends up to 25 kilometers, so the Waw an Namus is very easy to spot from space. The place is very popular between tourists, and gathers more popularity every year.
